Why is Google Chrome only loading some sites in basic html?

For some reason, Google Chrome has always loaded certain sites in basic html. It loads Yahoo Answers in basic html for some reason, and also my.umd.edu. I think every other site is normal though. Why would this be happening. Are there some settings that I have to change?
